Learning the piano is a rewarding and pleasurable activity which can bring you much joy, and pleasure and a sence of achievement. I teach both children and adults, lessons can be arranged at your own home (if you have a piano) or at my home. I teach on a Yamaha Clavinova digital piano.
Depending on the age and development of your child, lessons are individually tailored to each individual. Learning to play the piano is much more than playing the keyboard and lots of other skills must be developed at the same time, including:
- Understanding the language of musical notation
- Rhythm work, Sight singing, Sight reading & Aural skills
- Musical Awareness, Quality of Sound, Accuracy, Communication & Control of instrument
Lessons can be purely for pleasure, or I am happy to work towards grades in the ABRSM or Trinity syllabuses. Grades are a good way of showing progress, however they are not a definitive solution and will not be suitable for everyone!
For Adult Learners
Do you wish you learnt the piano as a child? Are you looking to brush up your piano playing? Just want to play for yourself and learn a new skill?
You can teach yourself piano at home, but lessons are essential to give you guidance and support and make sure you don’t pick up any bad habits. For the best progress home practice is, of course, essential. However, we all lead busy lives so booking a lesson is a good way to ensure you get your weekly fill of piano practice done in a safe, supportive environment.
